Spring 2010 Couture Spotlight: Chanel

January 26, 2010 - Leave a Response

The little black dress will have to sit out for now.

Chanel’s latest couture collection focused much more on frothy silhouettes with pastels and metallics taking center stage. This season’s goodies are a welcome break from last season’s severity. All fantasy, no filler.

Pre-Fall 2010 Spotlight: Nicole Miller

January 13, 2010 - Leave a Response

Sorry for the lapse in coverage folks. Ever since I received my new job as managing editor for my student paper, my fashion musings have taken a back seat. But, I’ve found some spare time and I shall use it wisely.

Anywho, Nicole Miller’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection takes “Half Breed” and brings it into the 21st century. The Native American influences tie in with origami folds and sharp silhouettes, taking it away from being cheesy/costume-y to bohemian chic.

Site to See: Weardrobe

January 2, 2010 - Leave a Response

I remember an article in one of my beloved teen magazines that suggested taking Polaroids of favorite outfits and keeping them in a look book for inspiration. Thankfully, the 21st century has modernized this idea by way of the website Weardrobe.

Weardrobe allows stylish citizens to do even more than simply post snapshots of their favorite get-ups. The site also allows you share you to tag the products worn so that fellow fashionistas can share in the joy of owning that fabulous jacket or to-die-for dress. Also, if you see your style soul mate, simply add them to your friends’ list and be notified when they post yet another photograph detailing their greatness. Weekly contests keep members up to date and up for the challenge of looking fabulous at all times.

Talk Shop: Ruby Fay

Thank goodness for advancements in maternity fashion!

Ruby Fay’s work was featured on an episode of WeTV’s series Platinum Babies. After looking at her funky graphics and sporty pieces, it’s not difficult to see why a hip New York mom-to-be wouldn’t be attracted. My absolute favorite piece is a kimono receiving robe that is a must-have for post-delivery room comfort and a piece that can be worn long after the bundle of joy arrives.

Pre-Fall 2010 Spotlight: Carolina Herrera

December 10, 2009 - Leave a Response

Yes, that’s right: Pre-Fall.

These collections are a fun sneak-peak as to what some designers have in store for the public when the season goes into high gear. One teaser collection that I am in love with is one created by Carolina Herrera. Undeniably chic both in her designs and her personal style, these pieces are equal parts stylish, artistic, and simply beautiful. From punchy cocktail frocks to luxurious coats to drop-dead gorgeous gowns, there a little something for everyone.
